Youth Engagement Symposium a success!

On Wednesday 19th March 2008, MADE held a symposium entitled “Under the Influence” (The power of young people to inform public space). The symposium, which is part of MADE’s Creative Communities programme attracted 70 delegates from a range of professions as well as speakers from national agencies such as Bill Badham from the National Youth Agency and Joost Beunderman from DEMOS. The day also included a timely presentation from Wanda Brown from DCSF regarding the play pathfinders and international inspiration from Pihla Meskanen, director of ARKKI, school of architecture for children and youth in Helsinki, Finland.

A summary of the day’s proceedings will be available on our website shortly, if you would like to be informed when this is online please contact steph@made.org.uk

Urban Explorers at the Education Show

Since September 2007 botanical heritage consultant Pam Smith and Gary Evans, Chandos year 4 part time teacher have been working with MADE to further develop, pilot and evaluate the Urban Explorers initiative. A resource pack has been developed and piloted which builds on the activities carried out with Chandos School in 2007.

Gary Evans and Pam Smith were invited by Creative Partnerships to speak about the Urban Explorers initiative at the annual Education Show at the NEC in February 2008, attended by teachers and education professionals and suppliers etc. The session was well received and provided an opportunity to gain feedback on using the designed and built environment as an educational resource.

Fill out "Built Environment in Education Questionnaire"

Design Enabling update

Our design enabling service is now up and running with MADE’s panel of Enablers providing advice and support to design decision makers in Dudley, Tipton, Walsall and West Bromwich. The enablers are working with park restoration and town centre and estate regeneration projects. Advice focuses, not just on design issues, but also procurement, planning policy, project management; anything that helps us achieve better places.

We want to hear from you. If your work means that you make decisions about the design of the built environment, in planning, regeneration, housing or private practice, let us know what you think are the barriers to achieving better places and what support services would help you overcome them.

Contact David Tittle, Design Enabling Manager on 0121 633 9403 or email david@made.org.uk
