Close up and Personal: Seven Storey Building Tour
15 very keen people had a chance to take an exclusive tour of the ironic chances brothers glassworks building on Palace Drive, last week as part of our Chances glass works everybody's story's project.
We only had a limited amount of spaces available for the walk however, we may be putting on another one on soon. The walk began with a 10 minute talk followed by a guided tour around the Chance Brothers site and inside the building. After the talk everyone joined the canal from Spon Lane and travelled towards the pump station for some tea/coffee and some sandwiches. Everyone enjoyed there tour of the Chances building, it even brought back some very close memories for some of our members who joined the walk. Many participants enjoyed their walk and we had some lovely feedback. Alex Crowton sent MADE some lovely feedback...
''A fantastic insight into the un-seen world of an amazing (and what should be) a world heritage site, The tour of the former Chances glass works was truly fascinating experience. It was great to get a snap shot of this derelict un-seen world, brilliantly illuminated by the friendly and knowledgable Mark and Nita. A fascinating tour into and insigne into the industrial heritage of Smethwick and the black country, please do more of these, great!''
MADE is extremely pleased with the outcome of this walk.
Here are some pictures of the tour around Chances Glassworks below...
The future of Chance Glass is under threat. A planning application is open for a skip hire business to operate on the premises for a duration of 11 years. The noise, vibration and lorries that thunder by this fragile grade two listed building can no longer continue.
