Volunteers wanted for young peoples event

Author: Pooja Raj

MADE's City Builders Academy is a free 5-day experience for 15 to 18 year olds interested in architecture. To find out more here

The Volunteer role

The academy is delivered by the core MADE team but we need volunteers to work alongside us to support the young people. We are looking for enthusiastic lively, passionate people who can work closely with the groups in the MADE studio on their design proposals. They will involve circulating from group to group as they go through the design process, helping them with any queries, challenging them on any assumptions they make, suggesting areas to consider and so on.

You do not need to be an expert - we have an induction to all the key topics (e.g good design, density, streets, scale etc etc) ut some knowledge of the built environment through practice or study is necessary.

You will also accompany us on visits to the site, local practices ad a building tour. On the final day there will be presentations before a judging panel and prize giving. You will never be left with sole responsibility for any task or group of young people, but be with MADE staff at all times in a support role.

It will be very hands on but very rewarding - volunteers who have done this in the past have all reported it was an intense but enjoyable experience and they benefited greatly from working with the young people and watching them develop over the course of the academy.
