Announcing the M5 Mile Artists
MADE is delighted to announce the M5 Mile team have now commissioned 5 artists to work on our special takeover day on July 16th.
We will be transforming an otherwise ignored stretch of land under the raised section of the M5 motorway as it passes through Smethwick.
After receiving a high number of great quality applications for the commission it was a tough job to make a decision. We have selected artists who we feel not only proposed something that fit the brief of responding to the very interesting space under the motorway but also whose practice complimented those of the other commissions so overall we have a varied programme of creative activities on the day.
The artists are:
Fusion Dance Company - Dance Artists - Twitter @fusionacademy2
Daniel Griffin-Hayes - Street Artist - http://dangriffinhayes.com/
Bryan Hancox - Animator - http://ketchupbeard.wix.com/bryanhancoxanimation
Jayne Murray - Artist - www.jaynemurray.co.uk
Samuel Rodgers - Sound Artist - www.samuelrodgers.info
The aim of the commission is to give the smallest of flavour of what a place which is ‘taken-over’ by creative communities may look like, it will temporarily enliven and animate the space, be an exemplar, an inspiration, a curiosity which will provide a snapshot of potential of forgotten, neglected and unused spaces.
The artists brief is simply to respond to the site, keep watching the MADE website for more information about their individual proposals as they are developed.
On the day their work will be documented through photography and video and this will be exhibited around the region at a later date.
